Miriam Cahn
körperlich – corporel
Miriam Cahn (b. 1949) is one of the leading exponents of recent Swiss art. She drew national and international attention to herself in the 1970s with black-and-white drawings that were made by using the body performatively. In the early 1990s the artist discovered colour for herself and turned to painting. Figurative imagery in her works merges with sketchy, abstracted elements. In her depictions of human beings, animals, buildings, and plants one can always sense the absent, the invisible and the inexpressible as well. Miriam Cahn’s entire oeuvre testifies to an intense reflection on existential issues, current events and social conditions.
The exhibition shows works from different creative periods, yet the focus is on new paintings, paper works, and sculptures. körperlich – corporel is a joint project with the Centre culturel suisse in Paris.
