Anthropologist Jeremy Narby and artist Ishita Chakraborty talk about indigenous knowledge systems, the migration of plants and the exploitation of resources in the global South and their post-colonial contexts.
Jeremy Narby is known for his many years of research into indigenous knowledge in the Peruvian Amazon. He is the author of renowned works, including «The Cosmic Serpent» and «Plant Teachers: Ayahuasca, Tobacco, and the Pursuit of Knowledge» taught anthropology at Stanford and worked for the Swiss NGO Nouvelle Planète.
Ishita Chakraborty spent several months as an artist in residence in the Brazilian Amazon in 2024. There, the artist documented the resistance of indigenous groups against deforestation and environmental destruction, visited soy plantations and developed new works from her experiences, which can currently be seen in her exhibition Manor Art Prize 2024.
