The exhibition Auswahl 08 assembles a wide range of works by artists from the Aargau and offers a glimpse at the canton’s multifaceted creative scene.

The traditional annual exhibition has been providing an important platform for artists from the Aargau for more than 100 years. Any artist with a residence or place of origin in the canton of Aargau is eligible to apply for participation in the juried competition. This year, a total of 209 artist’s dossiers has been submitted and the jury has invited a select group of 54 artists to take part.

The Aargauer Kuratorium will award its grants for work in the visual arts at the opening at the Aargauer Kunsthaus to be held on 6 December 2008. On the same occasion, the Neue Aargauer Bank will award its sponsorship prize for a young artist. The winner will be made known at the opening.

Guest: The koorder artist’s collective uses a variety of media, from painting and object art to video, to create ad-hoc, large-scale installations on existing sites, including both fragments of older structures and new elements. koorder aims at permanent transformation and makes of its interactive method an artistic concept, as anarchic impulses wreak havoc with stable categories and systems, and thus render them only conditionally valid.

koorder comprises the Aargauer artists Matthias Berger and Till Hänel, who have been working together since 1997. The pair was invited by last year’s jury to exhibit in one of the rooms at Auswahl 08.
