CARAVAN 4/2009: Annette Amberg
Series of Exhibitions of Young Art
In her new work at the Aargauer Kunsthaus Annette Amberg (b. 1978) focuses on architecture and its formal, social and global connotations. Through the combination of objects, found and private photographs, as well as installation elements the artist creates a multi-layered web of references, dealing with the complex relationship between construed image and encoded idea. One of Annette Amberg’s points of departure is the picture library of the Cambodian architect Vann Molyvann (b. 1926) who was a dominating influence in Cambodian architecture and cultural politics in the 1960s. During the country’s short period of independence he created striking buildings which, clearly informed by Le Corbusier, use modern design and enhance it with traditional elements.
