Taiyo Onorato (b. 1979) and Nico Krebs (b. 1979) both studied photography at the Zurich Hochschule der Künste and they started their collaboration in 2003. However, the artists do not confine themselves to the medium of photography, as sculpture, installation and video are equally part of their work. Initially, the artists pieced together mundane items to serve as objects for their photographic pieces. Thus they would place a heap of construction materials, soil and rubble in front of the camera; in the image the arrangement would turn into a menacing abyss gaping in the middle of the living quarter. Meanwhile their sculptural pieces constitute independent bodies of work.
