Hugo Suter
Collection in Focus
The current focus of the collection is dedicated to the oeuvre of the Swiss artist Hugo Suter (1943 – 2013). There was a close relationship between the artist and the Aargauer Kunsthaus. In 1966, under the direction of Guido Fischer, the Kunsthaus acquired the first paintings by the then only 23-year-old artist. Fischer’s successors, Heiny Widmer and Beat Wismer, maintained a stimulating exchange with him, which led to further acquisitions as well as solo exhibitions (1982, 1997, 2010) and participation in group presentations. Today, an extensive collection of over 100 works is in the museum’s own collection. A selection of works on paper, wall reliefs, installations and objects from the years 1970 to 2000 are shown in three rooms.
