How has painting changed over the course of time? From realistic depictions to surrealist paintings to total abstraction, the pupils discover paintings from the mid-19th century to the present day. Differences in the choice of materials and painting style are analysed and discussed in detail. In the studio, from cycle 2 onwards, the pupils transform a naturalistically painted picture from the collection into an impressionist, surrealist or abstract masterpiece.
