Ishita Chakraborty
Manor Art Prize 2024
24.5.–24.8.2025
In her new works, artist and poet Ishita Chakraborty (*1989) combines ecological and socio-political issues: a song in a rare Persian dialect, fragile glass barricades and a room-size drawing on the tropics conjoin to form a holistic view of the current state of the world and the environment.
The combination of different media are typical for Chakraborty’s art: installations, murals and sound works enter into a dialogue with each other. Her works deal with the effects of global crises such as state repression and the exploitation of natural resources. The artist chooses unusual materials for her objects. She undermines expectations and uses poetic elements to open up new perspectives on resistance and change.
Ishita Chakraborty is the winner of the Manor Art Prize Aarau 2024, which is awarded every two years to promote young Swiss art. The prize is the occasion for this solo exhibition with publication.
