Impressions
Prints from the Collection
The Aargauer Kunsthaus owns a large collection of prints. These are the subject of the exhibition Impressions. Prints from the Collection.
In recent years prints are again increasingly receiving the attention they deserve. The print can, after all, hold its own against any other medium in terms of its checkered history, its pictorial potential, conceptual approaches and, by extension, originality. The invention of countless new printing techniques kept opening up the field of printing. More recently, artists have also increasingly reverted to older printing techniques. They are particularly interested in the subtle differences between the many and varied printing techniques.
The rich print collection of the Aargauer Kunsthaus offers an opportunity to survey the role of the print in contemporary art-making as well as trace its historical origins. By juxtaposing contemporary and historical works as well as presenting larger bodies of work of individual artists the exhibition is able to bring home the many different forms printing can take. The exhibition includes works by, among others, Hans Arp, Silvia Bächli, Verena Loewensberg, Claudio Moser, Robert Müller, and Hugo Suter.
