Stowaways
Swiss painting 1850 – 1950
Not all art works enjoy comparable privileges on the journey that leads from the time of their creation into the present day. While the works of successful artists are clearly visible up on deck for all time, others have to be brought on board as stowaways if they are to have a chance of attention later on. The exhibition Stowaways now gives such works the opportunity to emerge from hiding.
The show continues what began in 2013 with the exhibition Hidden Reserves: as then, the focus is on the wealth of invention and the diversity, in terms of both style and content, of Swiss painting from the first half of the 20th century – a good opportunity to reexamine hardened habits of seeing.
For the exhibition the Kunsthaus has once again collaborated with the artist, author and collector Peter Suter.
